30 Good Deeds You Can Do This Ramadan

Two years ago, prior to a sweltering Ramadan, I made a list of all the things I was going to complete. However, by the tenth day, I was depleted of my imaan boost. After ‘Eid al-Fitr, I looked over my list.

But they seem so easy to accomplish… what went wrong? I believe the problem was that I aspired to reach so many goals in such a short amount of time without really thinking about...

The Biggest and Most Dangerous Folly: Rectify today. Tomorrow may be too late!

The Biggest and Most Dangerous Folly: Rectify today. Tomorrow may be too late!

Opportunity to repent is among the most important blessings from the Merciful Lord. Given our propensity to fall into sins in a world that beckons towards evil at every step, not taking help from this opportunity is probably the biggest and most dangerous folly that anyone can commit. Consequences of leaving this world with unpardoned sins are too dreadful to imagine.

Thanks for an amazing 2016. As a start-up, like all others, we’ve had some ups-and-downs, and I’m grateful you’ve stuck with us around. Seriously, some of you have been reading our newsletters since the beginning and supporting and sharing (caring) which is amazing.

We launched an entirely new site in April 2016, and almost as quickly took it went all over. It was our big experiment with #SmartAzanClock product to understand the market need...

Priceless legacy of Scientific Knowledge. Is it not time to reclaim our legacy?

Priceless legacy of Scientific Knowledge. Is it not time to reclaim our legacy?

Imam Jaafar Sadiq (a.s.) left us a priceless legacy of scientific knowledge. Thousands acquired knowledge under the Imam including the eminent scientist Jabir bin Hayyan. Some of Imam Sadiq’s theories have been proven to be true more than a thousand years later, confirmed by science in the last few hundred years once science developed the needed tools like the telescope. These amazing scientific gems should motivate our youth into becoming top scientists and thinkers. Can we, who pride ourselves as belonging to the Jaafari school of thought, be content with less?

Morgan Freeman says the Muslim azan is 'one of the most beautiful sounds'

December 04, 2016

"One of the most beautiful sounds in the world is the Muslim call to prayer," Freeman said as he sat down with an imam at a mosque.

Freeman asked the imam what the origin of the azan is and how the muezzin (the one who calls the prayer) is chosen. "Meeting Muslims face to face, I've learned that Islam aims for people to live in peace," Freeman said in the episode.

Prophet (S): "The one who takes Prayer lightly is not of me. No! By Allah (Swt)! Such a person will not reach the Pond of al-Kawthar". Imam Khomeini says "worship performed without an attentive heart is devoid of value. That which brings about attentiveness of the heart consists of two matters. The first of these lies in possessing unoccupied time and an unoccupied heart, and the second lies in making one’s heart understand the importance of worship.

It is said that Allah swt has placed a compass in every human that always points to Him. As we grow, worldly influences of parents, environment etc send us looking for happiness here and there. True inner peace and joy elude us until we set out in the direction of the Creator.  A little American girl in a mall in Abu Dhabi is in awe at hearing  the call to prayer. May she say "labaik" one day, inshaAllah. Do share your memories of Azan and spiritual experiences in the comments section

"O vicious world! Do not try to snare me.., I am beyond your temptations and pitfalls ... " (Nahjul Balagha, letter 45). Imam Ali a.s. also presents powerful ideas for success in life’s journey (letter 31). Let us build our lives on the solid foundation of a worldview taught by the Holy Quran and Ahlulbayt. Has the time not come to join hands and, together, join the journey to Paradise?

ARE WE PICKING THE BEST FROM THE TREASURE TROVE?
How often do we supplicate to Allah swt and how? In his famous advice to his son (letter 31 in Nahjul Balagha) Imam Ali a.s. says “Think over it that by simply granting you the privilege of praying for His Favours and Mercies, the Merciful Lord has handed over the keys of His treasures to you. Whenever you are in need you should pray and He will confer His Bounties and...

Karbala: A Timeless Event Like No Other

October 02, 2016

Tragic events of history are normally remembered for some years. Fervently in the initial years, then sedately, with passion decreasing each year and eventually they are all but forgotten. Time takes it toll. Time is a great healer, they say. Wounds and hurts lose their bite with time. But not so with Muharram. The event of Karbala seems to defy the norm.. Why? How is this even possible?

Imam Hussain (as) has taught us in the most emphatic manner what this life is all about. He spoke some remarkable words during Haj at Arafat in his famous Dua Arafah. He not only spoke, he also walked the talk. He translated those words of Arafah into action on the day of Ashura on the burning sands of Karbala... (read more)

Reflection: A Story of Twins in the Womb

In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other replied, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.” “Nonsense” said the first. “There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be?”

Islam teaches us that life is but a short journey, with the aim of preparing for our real, eternal life after death. Central to these beliefs is the importance of daily prayers, which are offered on time, every single day in worship of our Creator.  The problem? Life gets in the way. But what if...

Hadith on Prayer and Its Effects

Hadith on Prayer and Its Effects

May 09, 2016

If there be a stream at the house of one of you in which the one washes himself five times a day, will there remain anything from the dirt over his body? Verily, the likeness of prayers is the same as the stream. The person who establishes ritual prayers clears out his sins thereby, except for the sin that takes him out from Faith he believes in. - Imam Sadiq [as]
Why Pray In Arabic?

Why Pray In Arabic?

May 09, 2016

The question some times is asked as to why should a Muslim pray only in Arabic language and not his mother tongue.

It may first seem logical that every Muslim should pray through his own mother language, so that he may understand what he say; but a little more thinking and study, <read more>

An inspiring idea born out of a 3-Year-Old's wish

Our story begins one fine day in April 2015. The little angel repeating her pleas to her father to pleeease play her favorite Dua e Faraj (inspired by SafeerTV) on the basic azan-only clock. After a debate in the mind that went from a firm No to Not Sure to May Be, came the words little Zahra wanted to hear. "Surely, it can be done" admitted the tech-savvy father, who has a passion for technology and love for Islam
